Nighoj

Friday evenings are probably the most exciting part of the week, when you have the feeling that weekend has arrived and you start planning how to spend it. Being a software professional I had once read that Google is the Brahmastra for a Software Engineer. It so true, every IT professional is so much dependent on Google that you cannot imagine yourself without it.

So here it was, on a late Friday evening that I was googling for places around Pune. I came across a destination called Nighoj. This place is famous for nothing but Pot holes. Its a time of the year when monsoon is about to arrive and I know every city road literally turns into this with Pune being no exception.

Pot holes in Nighoj on the other hand are not created by rains but because of constant flow of river, rocks on the two banks have been cut so beautifully that its a treat to watch. I further read that these formations are the largest in Asia too .This made me decide, destination Nighoj it is for this weekend.

I decided to visit Nighoj early the next morning for mainly two reasons. One, I wanted to save my self from the summer heat and other, week end is  the time which I need do all my homely duties, one thing that every grahastha person has follow.

Got up early the next morning, it was the time to hit the roads with my trusted companion: my wife. Started on the Ahmednagar highway and travelling east words would take you through Wagholi, Shikrapur, Ranjangaon and Shirur.

One you approach Shirur do not enter the city, take the by pass itself which will take you to the other end of the city. As soon as you cross the Shirur exit, you are on a river bridge on Ghod. Cross this bridge and travelling a kilometer or so, you come a left turn which will take you towards Alephata which eventually connects you to the Nagar-Kalyan highway.

Take this road and travel 25 km towards alephata you arrive at Nighoj Kund. Once in the village keep a watch for a gate (kaman in local terms) and travel 3 km on the kuchha road which brings you to a river bank of Kukadi. The visible land mark is a cable suspended bridge with two temples on the either side.

Parked my car and it time for some photo shots:

This is the bridge which serves as the land mark for this place:

Spent about an hour admiring nature's beauty and came back after having a good breakfast at Saradwadi ( a famous spot for Missal Pav and Bhel: local delicacy)
