Thosegar Waterfalls, Satarta, Maharashtra

Come monsoon and you have so many nature appealing places in the Western ghats .I can bet once you get a taste it would impossible to stop oneself moving out whenever you find time. Monsoon is one season which I personally like because every corner feels fresh and pure. Around Pune you will find umpteen places which quench  your desire to see pristine nature.

Pune being located in western ghats around the city there are numerous places to visit. Once such place is Thosegar waterfalls. Located around 20 away from Satara, it is a series of waterfall some small some as big as 500 meters.

Reaching Thosegar is very easy from Pune; all you need is to start from Pune and head for Bangalore highway. Once you reach Satara, enter the city and cross till you reach a tunnel. Local refer it as Bogda (as it is called in marathi). You need to enter the tunnel and take right which goes towards Sajjangadh a famous fort of associated with Shivaji Maharaj.

Once on the way to Sajjangad, the road becomes less of traffic and passes through ups and down on the hill which makes the journey very enjoyable. Thosegar is 10 km from  Sajjangad.

Road conditions are good and you will be able to maintains a decent speed. The view that you get is awe inspiring. You will also get a view of Uurmodi dam once you start approaching Sajjangad.

From the parking lot to the viewing gallery of the waterfalls it is semi paved way through the jungle. It tends to get a bit slippery in rains so a good foot ware is definitely recommended.

There are tow spots to see the waterfalls. One is not a fall in true sense but it is more of a rapid sort of.

The best time to visit is probably during the monsoons when water is in full flow and would provide you the best view. A bit to note that there are monkeys in good numbers at the viewing gallery and need to be cautious with your belongings! A one day trip from Pune is easily doable and a recommended place  for monsoon ghoom !
