Morachi Chincholi

Ever since I bought a new lens for my camera, I was getting desperate to try it out. The side effect of being in an IT industry, you hardly get any time during weekdays. Finally a search begins Friday evening, where I can take this gizmo out and play with it.

With the knock of winters, rememberd that few years back I had been to Morachi Chincholi with my friends. It was lovely small country side village with good population of peacocks. Residents of this village have promoted this as an eco tourism and trust me it is a nice idea. Morachi Chincholi is Marathi means a village of tamarind trees & town of Dancing Peacocks

So here it was, decided that it is time for me to revisit Morachi Chincholi. It is not very far away from Pune and is apprx. 50 km from Kharadi. Start on the Pune - Ahmednagar highway and cross Wagholi, Lonikand and Shikrapur. Post Shikrapur keep a watch for Pabal Phata. This is probably the farthest where the PMPL buses would reach on this highway.

Immediately after reaching there look out for a left turn which passes through the fields. This road will take you towards Ganegaon. At Ganegaon, take the second left and head straight for 5 km to reach Morachi Chincholi.

There are other routes available but I preferred this because of previous acquaintance.  Once there, there are quite a few sort of resorts which claim to be eco tourist spots. I preferred to go to one which has the Jai Mallahar School in its compound. It has a very good set up and there are view points where you can sit and see these birds. They have infact built a small platform where they spread grains for which the peacocks flock upon to feed.

I had reached early morning around 7 AM and was able to see these beautiful birds playing and picking the grains that lay around.

Peacocks and a very shy and on a simple sight of humans they run away. You need to be patient and silent to watch these birds. The best time to see them is either early morning or late in the evening; before sun set.

Over all  nice early morning run in the country side and feeling happy to have watched such a beautiful creation of God. No wonder, it justifies to be the national bird of our country.
