Pashan Lake

It is really fascinating to see such a wonderful man made lake in the concrete jungles. Every time while driving pass Pune-Bangalore highway, I used to contemplate the idea of visiting the lake sometime. With winters finally on, I decided that this week end would start with a morning walk on the sides of Pashan lake.

It is a man made lake built in the Pashan suburbs of Pune, some 12 km away from the city center. This lake was built in 1990s to fulfill the water requirements of the surrounding villages. Built by building a bund over a small rivulet Ramnadi, this lake can be easily spotted while driving from Chandani Chowk towards Mumbai on the Pune-Bangalore highway

Lately city municipal corporation has built jogging track around its periphery on the western side and have established bamboo plantations to attract birds in the lake. This has resulted in Pashan lake being one of the favorite destinations of the city Bird watchers. Best to visit the lake is either early morning or late in the evening when the temperatures are relatively cooler than the day time and birds are more active at this time.

To reach the lake the best is to either enter from the Pashan road from university circle and reach the Bangalore highway from Sutarwadi side. On the service road adjacent to the highway you would easily find the entry gate to the lake.

Though I am not an avid bird watcher, I am more interested in capturing the mood of the nature at different places and at different time of the year and hence I ended up at this place. Attaching pictures for you to enjoy.
